Activity Ideas for Skye
Isle of Skye Activities…
Skye has something for everyone, no matter what your age or ability. With outdoor activities aplenty the island and the sea around is like a giant adventure playground. If water based activities are your “thing” you can slide down a waterfall, swim at the foot of sea cliffs or explore the coast in a sea kayak – we can find someone to show you how. Boat tours will introduce you to sea birds and mammals or act as a “pick up / drop off” water taxi to get you to those out of the way spots. Maybe you want to bag a few Munros, walk a sea cliff route or go for the big one – traverse the Cuillin ridge, arguably the most arduous adventure in the UK.
At the other end of the scale there are secluded 10-metre high cliffs, ideal for newcomers to rock climbing. In between these two extremes, you can find round hills of all shapes, sizes and interest along with stunning glens and secluded picnic spots.
For those with an interest in wildlife there are wild life tours that will take you for a night or two outdoors wild camping and finding wild foods to shorter day trips to find otters, seals or red deer. Maybe you would like to catch wild Scottish salmon or brown trout in a hill loch, spot a golden eagle or simply experience Skye’s rugged beauty, there are some great local guides to hand.
One thing – don’t be put off by poor weather, it’s often those days that give you the best experiences – bad weather? Never, just the wrong clothes!
The Clan Donald Centre at Armadale Castle in the south of the island with its museum, archives and garden is a must visit location.
Or why not spend half a day creating your very own gin at Isle of Skye Distillers?
